Twenty-one feet under the water of Emerald Lagoon in Key Largo, Florida is an overnight adventure for divers who can’t get enough time underwater. The first of its kind, Jules' Undersea Lodge is a completely submerged underwater habitat only accessible by means of a short, but scenic, scuba dive.

Jules' Undersea Lodge began its career as an underwater research laboratory named La Chalupa stationed off the coast of Puerto Rico. Today the underwater habitat sits 5 feet above the lagoon floor and offers guests all the amenities available in above water motels.

Guests begin their adventure by swimming through a tropical mangrove full of exotic marine life like barracuda, parrotfish, tropical angelfish, anemones, sponges, oysters, and feather duster worms. Adventurers then enter the pressurized lodge through a moon pool located on the very bottom. Once inside the air-conditioned lodge, guests enjoy two bedrooms, a kitchen, hot showers, movies, music, and 42” windows in each room to view the rich marine life of the lagoon. Packages can be purchased that include a visit from a “mer chef” who dives down and makes a gourmet dinner for the guests in their kitchen, or they can have a pizza delivered from a local restaurant.

Both divers and non-divers can stay at the undersea lodge. Non-divers simply need to take a three-hour class before licensed instructors can escort them through the lagoon. Non-certified divers can also become certified after a three-day course during their visits. Certified diving guests have access to unlimited tanks so they can explore the lagoon whenever they like, and take a variety of specialty courses.
